Meet The Team


Managing Director:  Peter Burgess - Assoc Dip. Ag
Peter Burgess is a Managing Director of Kalyx and has been involved in the agricultural industry since 1984. Peter has his Certificate 1V in Assessment and Workplace Training and is an experienced agronomist with specialist knowledge of WA farming systems. He spends half of his time in the field supervising research trials and is responsible for providing training and extension of information to growers and professionals in Agriculture. The balance of his time is spent in business development, client liaison and the day to day running of the business.

Managing Director:  Ashley Bacon - B.Sc. (Agric) Hons, MBA
Ashley has more than 10 years experience in agricultural research. Initally working for Kalyx as a Research Agronomist, Ashley has since completed an MBA through UWA. He is based in the Carlisle office and now manages the administrative requirements of the company, staff and clients. Ashley is also responsible for the development of systems used by Kalyx to service the ever increasing needs of our clients.

Associate Director:  Barrett Sinclair - B.Sc. (Agric) Hons
Barrett has over 10 years experience in the areas of agronomic consulting and research. He joined Kalyx in 2001 and with his understanding of the commercial aspects of agriculture and his experience in trial work, Barrett plays a key role in both field and administrative operations at Kalyx. His principal responsibility in the company is the management of all logistical aspects of the trials. Barrett has recently become a shareholder in the company.

Crop Improvement Manager :  Matt Davey - B.Agribus.
With a Bachelor of Agribusiness from Muresk Institute of Agriculture, on-farm experience, and a number of years with Kalyx, Matt’s practical skills and understanding of farming systems makes him an integral team member. He spent eight months in the UK and Europe in 2006-2007 with much of this time involved in different agricultural enterprises. On returning to WA he re-joined Kalyx and now operates from his base in Beverley supervising all field operations.

Research Agronomist:  Steven Tilbrook - B.Sc. (Agric) Hons

Steven completed his degree in Agricultural Science at UWA and decided to travel around the world for 3 years before settling down in Dongara to pursue his Agricultural career. Steven grew up on a 12,000 acre family farm between Wyalkatchem and Tammin and has a strong passion for agriculture. He is currently taking care of our trials in the central wheatbelt.

Research Agronomist:  Peter Carlton - B.Sc. (Agric) Hons

Peter has spent the last 20 years in the Agricultural industry, firstly as a Research Officer for 10 years after completing his Bachelor of Science with Honours at UWA, then he moved on as Trials Coordinator for another 9 years after that, conducting and coordinating a trials programme. He brings a mature and extensive agricultural research knowledge to the team.

Research Account Manager:  Angela Hampson
A member of Kalyx since 1998, Angela’s primary responsibility is the administration of the National Variety Testing project and plant breeder trials.  Other responsibilities include the maintenance of our trial database and the provision of support to our team of agronomists as well as reporting the progress of research to clients.

Research Account Manager:  Julie Hodge - B.Ag Sc

Julie has worked extensively in Agriculture with a number of years experience as a research officer with Dupont (Australia) Ltd.   Her understanding of trial procedures is invaluable and perfectly suits her role of assisting clients with protocol design, trial management and the writing of scientific reports.

Personal Assistant: Nina Snell

Nina joined Kalyx in 2008 after six years in various administrative roles within the building industry and a short stint living in Melbourne.   In her role as Personal Assistant to the Directors she is also responsible for a range of additional tasks including providing administrative support to field agronomists, arranging equipment repairs, freight movements and purchase of supplies.  Her ability to balance these duties whilst also co-ordinating workshops, travel, social events, Payroll and website management make her our key go to person in the organisation.

Human Resources Assistant:  Dixie Burgess

Dixie has been with Kalyx since its beginning and has previously filled the role of Finance Controller.  She has now reduced her hours and is assisting the Directors with the administration of the day-to-day operations of the human resources functions and duties.

Research Agronomist: Darcy Fleay – B.Agribus

Following the completion of his degree in Agribusiness from Muresk, Darcy joined Kalyx in early 2010.   Growing up on a family farm he has lived and worked on the family farm his whole life and has a good understanding of the different farming methods in WA.  He is currently based in Mingenew and is overseeing the Kalyx trial program in the northern region.

Research Technician/Plant Mechanic: James Addison

James is our most recent employee joining Kalyx in July 2010. With experience operating his own property at Bruce Rock for several years he has also spent considerable time in recent years living in Queensland as a tour bus operator on Fraser Island.  His qualifications and experience as a Plant Mechanic ensure that Kalyx has an experienced mechanic dedicated to co-ordinating all servicing and repairs to the Kalyx fleet of research plant and equipment.  His complementary understanding of West Australian growing conditions provides valuable field support for our agronomists throughout the growing season. 

Research Account Manager: Caris Allen - B.Sc., Grad.Dip.Sc.Comm.

Caris joined Kalyx after completing the 4th year of her Bachelor of Science Degree at UWA. She majored in both Environmental Management and Land & Water Management, as well as completing a Diploma in Science Communication. Caris grew up on the family farm in Northampton so her understanding at a farm level is invaluable. She works alongside Angela, managing the National Variety Testing Project and plant breeder trials.

Research Agronomist:  Timothy Russell - B.A.Sc. (Agric)

Born and bred on the family farm in New Zealand, Tim relocated to Perth in 2009 after travelling overseas where he had the opportunity to experience a range of different agricultural work experiences. Tim studied at both Lincoln and Massey Universtities in New Zealand and brings with him the knowledge and skills to be a great Research Agronomist for Kalyx.

Research Agronomist: Megan Clements – B.Agribus

Megan was welcomed into the Kalyx team in November 2011 and based out of Kojonup being responsible for approximately 50 field trials in the South West region of WA. Megan grew up in Perth and had the travel bug for 3 years straight out of High School. After a 5 year stint within the Wool Industry in WA she felt there was no future for her, and chose to pursue a degree in Agribusiness at Muresk University. Megan’s initial intentions were to finish up working with livestock, but after having great cropping lecturers, she developed a keen interest in Agronomy as well as Mixed Farming Systems and will be completing her honours in 2012 at Curtin University.

Finance Officer: Lynn Stringer

Lynn joined Kalyx in May 2011 after moving to Perth from Bunbury. She has valuable skills gained within the Banking System and more recently as a Bookkeeper for a Chartered Accountants, covering the accounts of many and varied types of Companies. She is a member of the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers. Lynn is responsible for all aspects of Kalyx financial accounts.
